Season Two, Bout 1
"Mischief & Mayhem"

April 1, 2007
Virginia Beach

The Dirty Diesel Darlins picked up right where they left off the previous season, posting a 119-104 victory over their old rival, the Femmes Fatales, in the 2007 Dominion Derby Girls season opener last Sunday. This was the third bout between the DDD's and FF's, but both teams came into the bout with noticeably new rosters; both absent a number of familiar faces, but also ready to showcase some promising rookies. To thicken the plot, both the jammer-heavy Darlins, and blocker-biased Femmes, were skating with shortened rosters of eight and nine skaters, respectively.

The bout opened fast and furious, with both teams racking up a combined 92 points and 68 penalties. Despite Cutthroat KC's 5-0 grand slam over the Ruffian to end the first period, the Darlins, led by Sweet N. Lowdown's 26 points, skated into the first intermission with a 50-42 lead. Of additional concern to the Femmes, was the imminent foul trouble for Bam Bam McChaCha and Dyana Dryveby, who accumulated a combined 20 minor penalties.

Now settled in, though, the teams opened the second period skating more relaxed and more strategically, alternating four consecutive 4-0 jams; two for the Femmes, two for the Darlins. The teams continued to skate even through the next three scoreless jams, keeping the Darlins' lead at 8 points. The Femmes called a timeout to hone their strategy, but came out of the timeout without a jammer on the track, which allowed Mother Jugs to skate a 6-0 jam and push the Darlins' lead out to 14. That was the difference-making jam in the second period, as the second period ended with the Darlins up 13, 81-68. The Femmes were able to clean up their penalty tendencies in the second period, while the Darlins' skating got more careless, so a victory was still well within the their reach.

With a roster of only eight skaters, Becka the Wrecka being one minor penalty away from fouling out, and Asian Chowdown being two away, the DDD's were in a potientally dicey situation. They did all they could to put the game away early in the third period, though, earning lead jammer status in each of the period's first three jams and pushing the lead out to 91-72. Becka and Chowdown eventually fouled out, and T. Rex Ya Face managed to skate one 8-0 jam, taking advantage of the Darlins skating without a jammer, but it was too little, too late, for the Femmes. The Darlins' ability to earn lead jammer status in 9 of the third period's 14 jams allowed them to control the game down the stretch, and coast to a 119-104 victory.

The DDD's Sweet N. Lowdown completely stole the show, outscoring the Femmes 55-10 in jams in which she was the Darlins' jammer, a jaw-dropping +45 differential. Achieving that advantage was made largely possible through her ability to earn lead jammer status in 11 of her 14 jams.

The Femmes attack was led by rookie sensation T. Rex Ya Face, who toed the jammer line a remarkable 18 times, and tallied 72 points for the sexy, secret agent squad on skates.

The Dominion Derby Girls' next bout features the Femmes Fatales in action again, on Mothers' Day, when they challenge the league's newest team, the St. Brawli Girls.
